On Wednesday night, after work, my husband and I went to buy our Christmas tree. This proved to be a tricky task in the semi-lit dark but we brought home a little lovely that proved to be one of our tallest yet. When we lived in a little rented cottage I would insist on buying a huge tree that virtually touched the ceiling and nearly filled out our entire dining room but I always feel we could go bigger in our current house. We always stick to a 6 or 6 and half foot tree; for the cost if nothing else! So, with my mouth feeling like nothing on earth, I didn't feel up to decorating the tree on Wednesday night (sure sign I am under the weather, let me tell you). I set about the task on Thursday morning after having to replace a bulb in one set of lights, but would you believe it - when the lights were all nicely spaced out on the tree - none of them worked!! So I thought, don't worry I have a supermarket delivery coming in a couple of hours and I had ordered two sets of indoor/outdoor lights to decorate our front porch. But as you can probably guess when my delivery arrived, listed on the top of the sheet, was "Products not available today - two sets of clear indoor/outdoor lights"! In between waiting for the delivery I had decided to start my present wrapping and second present in I promptly run out of sellotape! As you can probably tell, from this little rant, along will feeling like my head was going to drop off ,I was not a happy lady!!
So Thursday afternoon was spent, wasting the petrol I thought I was saving by having my shopping delivered, going out to buy lights! Anyway, I suddenly had a second wind in the evening and found energy from some reserve I didn't know I had, so I set to decorating the tree! My husband informed me that every year I am never happy with the way it looks , as I stood back and took in the sight of it decorated and questioned him over it! But I think it looks just lovely now I have had a day to settle with it in our living room and just hope it lasts, as it already seems to have drooped quite a lot but it doesn't seem to be dropping needles so fingers crossed.
I have tried to take photo's of it with twinkly lights but its really difficult (anyone have any tips, please share?) But here is a photo of the finished beauty plus some of the ornaments. I really cannot bring myself to go away from the traditional red and gold, maybe one day I will add another colour!
This weekend I am making lists frantically of things that need to be done and hoping to finish wrapping presents, does anyone else feel like the days in December go far quicker than those in other months of the year? I am looking forward to settling down tonight (unfortunately without a glass of wine because of the medication) to watch the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing and to tell myself I must take time to enjoy this time of year and not just run around like a headless (or toothless) chicken!
Ohh I hope your feeling better! I still have my wisdom teeth but that's because they haven't quite popped out yet.
ReplyDeleteAt least you were able to get your tree up which is very cute! And a 6 foot tree is completely fine. It really looks great!
And I agree time flies quicker the closer it gets to Christmas. Probably because there is so much to do!x
So sorry you have had to go through alot of pain lately. Your tree looks great though. It sure is big and wide. Looks like you can get alot of presents under it.
