Morning Monday!

This morning I feel like we had a lovely long weekend. This is probably because ours started on Friday lunchtime and although we spent an obscene amount of time on the road on Friday and Saturday, thanks in part to numerous road closures, we had a great weekend. Thursday afternoon I began preparations for the weekend by making the amazing 'Frosted Brownie' from the wonderful Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. (Wow! is the the only way to describe this beauty)

We returned home, from a quick trip to friends, on Saturday afternoon and got a call from my mother in law to invite us to have a fish and chip supper with them and our two eldest nephews. Our two nephews were having a 'weekend with Grandma and Grandad' and when we arrived they were busy playing 'old maid'! We had a lovely tea, with far too many chips, and we even managed a scoop of ice-cream to finish! This was followed by two very silly tv programmes (Total Wipeout and You've Been Framed), which we never normally watch, but with an eight and five year old, they really were very funny!!

And then we spent yesterday lazing around the house, reading magazines, cooking a delicious beef cannaloni for tea and catching up with washing and other chores. I even managed a few more chapters of a book I have had on the go for ages in the morning in bed with a cup of coffee. We had no real reason to venture out and the weather wasn't tempting us either - it's all misty starts and foggy days here at the moment in the very flat English countryside.

Over the weekend I did however have the images of summer floating around in my mind as I have had the chance to see my husbands cousins recent wedding in South Africa which was just stunning and because the gorgeous Gracie was getting married this very weekend. Oh how I wondered how she was getting on! I can only begin to imagine the stunning spectical that must have been her special day.

I also want to take a moment to wish every poorly person a HUGE...

So many of the blogs I have been reading and friends I have spoken to have been talking about being ill - with some pretty nasty bugs doing the rounds all over the world at the moment. So I wish everyone a speedy recovery soon.

I am off to get my work all done and then I have a few errands to run today in one of my favourite local towns. Wishing you all a great last week in January, oh and a happy Christmas just 11 months away today!

Your brownies look yummy. If we get together in the summer, you'll make some, won't you? ;~)

I've just posted photos of my lovely parcel. Thanks again!

  2. I've been thinking about picking up that cookbook. I was really tempted at Anthro the other day. Should I go for it?

And I'm with you on wishing for summer right about now. :)

  4. Erin - you can bet I will make it! My husband is already asking for a variation with pecans instead - so it is proving very popular!

Kristen - I definitely 100% recommend the book - it has endless fabulous receipes.

Alli - hope you both get well very soon

    xx
