Floral Friday

First Floral Friday of July! Wow, where did half the year go? We have been truly blessed at the end of June and now in the beginning of July with amazing weather. Today is a little cloudier but still incredibly warm. Of course sunny weather and the height of summer brings only one flower into my mind - Sunflowers. I haven't grown any of my own this year but I did see them, for the first time, in the shop this week when I was picking up my groceries.

We always grew them when I was young, usually in a pot on the patio and each tea-time we would give them the end of the cold pot of tea! Anyone else heard of cold tea being good for sunflower growth or was it just an old wives tale my Granny used to spin us?

I have had this weeks 'Found Flowers' saved on my computer for some time now and they really sum up life around here, in Suffolk, at this time of year. Very soon I will be able to buy my sunflowers at the end of peoples driveways because we have lots of honesty box stalls around here. I also seem to have a glass jar of daisies constantly on my windowsill now too, we have a huge clump of them at the end of our garden and my in-laws have an abundance around their fields. So I am incredibly fortunate to have a constant source of flowers grown locally.

As it is Friday of course our minds turn to the weekend ahead, many of you I imagine have 4th of July celebrations in mind. Our plans for the weekend include time spent in the garden, for which my husband has big plans of hedge cutting and strimming to be done. I plan on taking a much more relaxed approach myself! We also have family staying at my in-laws so we will probably spend some time with them too. What are your plans for this first weekend of July? Do tell, I love to hear what you are all up to.

  2. Love the sunflowers. We've got some great big ones growing, but no blooms yet. We'd need sun for that, I guess!
