Much Love Monday New Friends

This time last week we travelled to the beautiful village of Gweek which is home to the National Seal Sanctuary. When you pull into the village it is hard to imagine that there would be such a place there but it provides an invaluable service to the area. Last Monday it was absolutely full; as this time of year is when they are at their busiest with rescues almost every week. Both the indoor hospital and convalescence pools were full of young pups and rescued adults.

I cannot entirely explain exactly why, but these gorgeous little creatures completely stole my heart!

As well as providing homes and rehabilitation for many seals the Sanctuary is also home to sea lions. They had an incredible underwater viewing area and it was fabulous to stand inside the curved glass and feel like you were part of the tank as these beautiful animals swam past.

Along with the sea lions there were also Asian otters, which are much smaller than our native ones. The Sanctuary took these on when I zoo could no longer provide a home for them. We caught feeding time for these cheeky characters and they had a great time foraging for all the fish and meat.

Finally, the Sanctuary has this year built a home for some endangered penguins. They too had an underwater viewing area and it was incredible to watch these waddling, clumsy looking beauties swimming so effortlessly and gracing below the surface.

So last Monday and this Monday in memory I am totally loving my new friends. Each and every one of those characters stole my heart and I was like a little child all over again asking my husband if I could go and see each enclosure 'just one more time'!

*To add - It seems my penguins above were not the only admired ones on the internet yesterday! These gorgeous little creatures at Edinburgh Zoo were trending on Twitter because they were having so much fun in the snow! Take a look if you have an hour to spare!*
