Nursery Tones

I thought I would begin the task of showing you the nursery this week and today show you where I got my inspiration for colour, tone and atmosphere. Since I very first started blogging, I began following Ohdeedoh and have enjoyed looking at nurseries on their site for quite a few years now. I also loved a pretty baby room image when I came across one on Tumblr, which always got saved into a file on my laptop. The arrival of Pinterest has also been a fantastic tool to store all of my ideas and wish list purchases too.

As regular readers of Hydrangeas and White Daisies will know, I have a definite soft spot for sepia tones and anything along the beige to brown colour line. I initially set out with the thought of using a taupe coloured gingham fabric for the curtains and built my scheme from there. However, when I failed to find the perfect size check and colouring of fabric I wanted, I came across this gorgeous fabric below in 'malt' from The Natural Curtain Company. Once I had found the fabric I loved I worked from there for the rest of the nursery colour tones.

My mother-in-law kindly said she would make the curtains for me because sadly I do not possess either a sewing machine or the skills required to make them. So far our nursery is painted, carpeted and the furniture is in place. I am now waiting for the curtains and other fabrics to go in and I need to put up various pictures and wall hangings. So I thought I would show you some of the rooms which I have loved and saved along my decorating search.
I love the calm atmosphere in this one. At first I thought I wanted to go for a darker wood furniture when I started to look in stores but then I looked back at these inspirational rooms, along with others I had 'pinned' and realised I tended to favour paler light furniture instead. Our Nursery is by no means as decadent as this one though - no chandeliers or canopies over the cot in ours.
I find the image above very soothing too and again love the tones and shades of cream and beige used in this room. Even though it is not a room for baby it would make a very fancy child's room and I simply adore the built in sleeping nook, don't you?
As we don't know if our 'tinywhitedaisy' is a boy or girl I have steered clear of adding any colours which might be interpreted as one way or the other but I used this image above as idea for wall colour, although it is not a nursery. I loved both tones on the individual walls and wanted to go with quite a dark tone of beige even though the room itself is small because I wanted to promote warmth and cosiness as the little one's arrival will be in the winter months.
Finally, I came across this gorgeous children's room when I had already begun making decisions on our own room. There are a whole series of shots of this haven and each is just as beautiful and fun. I especially love those rabbit decals on the walls. This last image (click to enlarge) features just a few of the things which inspired my own colour tones for the final design. The angel wings (from here) and the rabbit lamp (from here) have made it into the nursery. The bunting (from here) is very similar to the curtain fabric and I am toying with the idea of adding some over the cot wall and the storage basket picture (from here) had all the lovely tones I wanted to use.

That is it for today, I hope to get things up on the walls very soon to be able to show the you the finished design. I would love to hear what colour themes you went for if you have decorated a nursery of your own or what you would choose if you had to. Of course I always love to hear what your favourite image is from those I feature, so please drop me a comment and let me know.

I look forward to hearing what you think.

    almost forgotting your question!!!
Yes, the new range of dining/cooking ware at homebase is really nice! actually because we are still "in progress" with our new house, we have to make some visits to the diy stores quite often, and every time I go to homebase and b&q I usually always manage to find something cute I could buy :)
For example, also the cream ceramic chicken that you see on my kitchen trolley, was from homebase, bought some months ago ;)
I would suggest you a stroll if it's not far from you!

    kisses
